The first weekend of September, Micah went on his first camping trip! We decided to come along too. As part of his Spiritual Formations class, Andrew was required to attend the annual Grad Life Retreat. Families were also invited. The retreat was at a Christian Camp, from Friday afternoon to Saturday Afternoon. There were no facilities for families to sleep, so we tented. The retreat was the weekend that Hurricane Hannah went through South Carolina. Originally, Hannah was headed right for us, but by God's grace it moved farther North East. The rain almost completely missed us, and it provided a cool night for comfortable sleeping. We weren't sure what Micah would think of the tent, but he thought it was great! He enjoyed crawling around, exploring the tent. There were three sessions in which there was worship and Dr. Robertson McQuilken spoke. Micah didn't want to fall asleep on his own in the tent though, (I guess because it was so different from his crib) so I did a lot of walking and pushing the stroller during the sessions. Bed time was difficult for Micah, but after walking with Daddy for a while, he fell fast asleep and stayed asleep on top of his sleeping bag in the tent all night!

Saturday afternoon during free time, we wanted to take Micah for a swim. However, Micah was VERY tired and just did not want to take a nap. After an hour of walking back and forth on the dining hall porch with the stroller (it was the only paved surface at the camp) we gave up and decided to take Micah to the lake. He got to ride in his new raft (he wanted to be just like his cousin Jude!) but he wasn't really enjoying it. He was tired and cranky and it was very sunny. Mommy remembered his sunglasses, but they didn't help much. Micah kept trying to take them off. Gone are the days where he would leave his hat and sun glasses alone!

Micah looks somewhat happy here, and I think that he wanted to have a good time, but he was just so tired. It was a very nice lake, and Micah splashed around a little bit, but we only stayed in for a few minutes.

After getting out of the lake, Micah conked out after just a few minutes in Daddy's arms. He was exhausted!!

Even though I spent most of my time playing and taking care of Micah, it was nice to get away and get refocused on the Lord. This was our first weekend off since the students arrived a month ago. I also got to meet some of the other Grad Students that Andrew has classes with, which was great. When we got home, our neighbors (also houseparents!) Angela & Allen invited us to have dinner with them at their house with their children Abby, Nate, and Jin Ah. It was great to not have to think about cooking, and we enjoyed their company. It was a delicious meal too!
