Homecoming at Ben Lippen is a big event! The classes compete during the week by dressing up for Spirit Week, with Floats being the culmination of the competition! The crowd that turns out for tailgating and to watch the game rivals that of a typical L-S game (which is a lot considering Ben Lippen only has 300 high school students!). We had a great turnout from our students to tailgate as well! I tried to take pictures of the floats at half time. They don't do the floats justice, but here they are. The Freshmen did The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe for their float. They each also have a skit component to their float. I personally thought that the Freshman Class float was had the best construction and costumes!
The Sophomores did Scooby Doo and the gang. They even made a cutout of the Mystery Machine to go in front of the truck that pulled the float!
The Juniors did a jungle theme to go with their scripture passage about taming the tongue. One of the characters in their skit was the "wild tongue." Each class has a verse for the year, and they were to design their floats with that verse in mind. The Juniors did the best job of connecting their scripture passage with their float, which is probably why it was chosen as the winning float!
The Senior Clase had a magician theme for their float. The girl in the yellow is Nelly, from our house. The girl next to her is Liza, her twin sister. The Seniors also set off fireworks, which was exciting, yet very nerve wracking to watch as we could see them lighting them behind their float! It was a great evening and Micah was tuckered out by the end of the Float Half Time Show, so we headed home. The Ben Lippen Falcons won the game that night (I forget the score) which was very exciting because the team they were playing against was supposed to be a tough team to beat!
