At the end of January, we again found ourselves back in the emergency room! It was the first day of class for the new semester for Andrew and we were meeting him between his two classes for lunch. Micah and I were waiting outside for Andrew to finish up meeting with his internship adviser when Micah ran towards the water fountain to get a drink. He tripped and ran head-on into the corner of the wall, splitting his forehead open! I still don't know how I remained so calm, but I scooped him up and took him into the bathroom (right next to the water fountain) and got the bleeding under control - which was a little difficult since it was a head wound! Micah was great about the whole thing - he only cried a little and calmed down pretty fast, which is probably why I was able to stay so calm myself! I called Andrew from the bathroom to come join us, and from there we had to get back home to get our car to take Micah to the hospital. Another grad student was sweet enough to drive us back home so that we didn't have to make the ten minute walk.
Micah was pretty much his usual energetic self once we got to the ER, and they put us in the same room that we were in before, so he felt right at home! He seemed so unfazed that when the doctor first came in she thought it was probably only an abrasion - until she got a closer look! Micah was a trooper - the nurses made him into a Micah burrito with a blanket to keep him still while the doctor cleaned his gash and closed it up with medical glue. He impressed the nurses so much that he got two toys - a rubber lizard and and a tractor with a pesticide trailer! The trailer had a picture of a grasshopper with an x through it, but Micah was certain that it was a bunny. Poor bunnies! He still loves both toys and plays with them often...you have to watch out for the lizard...it bites fingers and toes and noses! His head has long since healed, and the scar is gradually fading...but we're not certain that this visit to the ER will be our last with our brave, daredevil child!
